Evgeniy Kulakov has been filming “Trace” for 15 years to treat his son with cerebral palsy and autism.

An eternal student and computer genius on the screen, but in life a modest father of two children and a loving husband. At first glance, one can only envy the actor, but fate has repeatedly presented him with difficult trials.

The whole country knows Evgeny Kulakov for his role as programmer Vanya Tikhonov from the famous TV series “Trace.” Before that, he played on-screen military personnel, timid students, and nerdy geniuses, but the last 15 years he has devoted almost entirely to a detective series about the adventures of FES employees. 

Fans, viewers, and some colleagues, as Kulakov himself admitted, sometimes call him by his character’s name behind his back, because over the years the image of a computer genius in a white coat has become an integral part of him. 

“'Trace' for me is family. We can meet after work and have fun. We went through a tough school, but it united us all. I remember how we started: during the day, while it was light, we filmed on location, and when it got dark, we ran to the pavilion. At the same time, they told us: “Now if you are late, you will be fined.” And we, without having eaten a bite that day, rushed there,” the artist previously recalled. 

Evgeniy is also in no hurry to abandon other projects. Every year, many TV series are released with his participation - the roles are not always the main ones, but definitely memorable. Such active work, without putting one's face down, is, alas, determined not only by a passion for cinema, but also by necessity.   

The fact is that the actor is forced to spend most of the money he earns on his eldest son, who has suffered from cerebral palsy since birth and subsequently acquired autism. 

Evgeniy Kulakov does not hide at all what his family had to go through. Although I previously preferred not to dwell on this topic.

He met his future wife Olga Buzhor while still studying at the Shchukin Theater School. After a year of trying to woo his beloved, Eugene won her heart. The actors signed their names, but as they themselves mentioned, they never considered themselves romantics. Some time later, their first child, Ilya, was born. But the joy of his birth was overshadowed by difficult diagnoses. 

The parents surrounded their son with care and attention.

“My wife left the theater so that she could be with Ilyusha all the time. She began to study the disease herself and found the right scientific approach. Thanks to her, she was able to achieve some success. Even doctors are surprised. For example, now the son dresses himself, eats and goes to the toilet. These are huge achievements for children with autism and cerebral palsy , ” the artist shared in a conversation with StarHit.

But treatment and rehabilitation costs enormous amounts of money: a walking chair for 200 thousand rubles, 2 weeks in a specialized camp with developmental programs in Sochi - 600 thousand. And besides, in 2017, Olga and Evgeny had more troubles - their daughter Nika was born. I had to expand - a 25-year mortgage was added to all the expenses.  

This year Ilya turned 18 years old. Despite the doctors' predictions and thanks to the efforts of his parents, he makes incredible progress: he says “yes”/“no”, closes the door behind him, selects a cartoon on his phone with his finger, learns to swim and even cook. 

And while Olga spends all her time with the children, Evgeniy works hard, taking on any project just to bring home money and make his family happy.
