Horror as a way of self-expression for new authors: We discuss modern horror films in the podcast “The Caretaker”

Why were monsters jumping out of bushes suddenly replaced by the horrors of real life?

More recently, straightforward horror films were in fashion, where it was clearly stated: this is the evil that the heroes have to fight. Or not fight, but run away - depending on your luck. This model has worked on the screen almost from the very beginning of the development of cinema. But recently the vector has changed. The viewer was simply tired of banal horror films, and they were replaced by psychological horror films with a deeper meaning, where you don’t immediately understand what evil is.

In this episode, the hosts of “The Caretaker” Alexey Khromov and Mikhail Volnykh discuss modern horror films, the transformation of the genre and the demand for the jump scare technique, to which the word “screamer” is assigned in Russian. They also advise what to watch for those who are no longer afraid of anything.
